The most important new concept of 2010

I encountered Linda Stone last week at the Supernova conference via deborah Schultz. She used the term “email apnea” and I immediate recognized the validity and importance of the pattern of thought. She then mentioned “conscious computing” and I was hooked.

Post-productivity computing finally allows the passive processing — the gloss and reflection — needed but too often absent from modern “productivity” tools. It’s a new pattern for imagining approaches to “processing information” in ways that recognize the full capacity of the human sensory system. I think we’ve been stuck in the woods for a long time, and this important work points the way out.
